In the summer of 2014, ONS resident Kristopher Owens submitted his idea to be a part of the 5x5 Indy competition which awards $10,000 to an idea which improves the neighborhood and the city of Indianapolis. (For more info on 5x5 Indy, click here.) Using five slides for five minutes and competing against five other ideas from around the city, Kristopher won.
Improve the Alabama underpass with murals and improved lighting.
After a few delays and much help from Harrison Center Executive Director Joanna Taft, and artists Shawn Causey and Mark Daniell, we are closer than ever to having the Alabama project completed. When costs ballooned, it was necessary to go out and raise more money. With a $20,000 price tag, we have whittled the amount needed down to $5800. This was possible due to generous contributions from the Old Northside Association, the Old Northside Foundation, and Travis Barnes, owner of Hotel Tango Whiskey.
We are seeking to bridge the fundraising gap with donations from neighbors who live, work, and play in the ONS and surrounding neighborhoods.
The long-term goal is to light every underpass in the ONS and adjoining neighborhoods. The Alabama project is just the first step towards that vision. Please share this with your friends and neighbors, and thank you for your support!
Levels of Giving:
Donors will receive a placard with their name and donation level at the underpass, an invitation to a donor party, and recognition in the Urban Times and on the ONS website.
